Door of entry: entry by order of 19 June 1939

Origin and history

The Pontoise Public Garden is a green space located in the city centre, whose most remarkable element is its entrance door. It was listed as a Historical Monument by ministerial decree on 19 June 1939, making it a protected architectural testimony. The garden is today the property of the municipality of Pontoise, in Val-d的Oise.

The location of the garden is specified in the Merimée base at the Petit-Martroy Square address, although approximate GPS coordinates are also located near Rue de la Coutelerie. The accuracy of this location is considered poor (note 5/10), which may reflect uncertainties about its exact limits. No information is available on its origin, creation or architectural evolution beyond the protection of its door.

The Public Garden is part of Pontoise's communal heritage, a city marked by its medieval history and its strategic position at the gates of Paris. Public green spaces, such as this one, often played a social and recreational role for the inhabitants, although the archives do not specify its original use. Today, its status as a protected monument makes it a place of heritage value, without its current vocation (open to the public, events, etc.) being detailed in the available sources.
