Origin and history
La Bastide d'Arbouin is a historic monument located in the commune of Saint-Vallier-de-Thiey, in the Alpes-Maritimes department (06). This site, registered under the title of Historical Monuments by decree of 4 December 1987, is distinguished by its architectural and functional elements protected, such as facades, roofs, interior corridors with their decor, as well as agricultural and domestic structures such as an old bread oven, a pigeon house, a cooler and two terraced vegetable gardens. The bastides, typical of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, were often rural residences combining habitat and agricultural activities.
In this context, the Bastide d'Arbouin illustrates the traditional organisation of the provencal areas, where living, storage and production spaces were integrated. The presence of a cooler and ice lake suggests an advanced management of natural resources, essential in a Mediterranean climate region marked by warm summers.
