Origin and history

The church of Saint-Hippolyte de Lavernhe is a religious building located in the department of Aveyron, in the Occitan region. Built in the 12th century, it is distinguished by its Romanesque apse, the only significant vestige of this period after several changes. The apse, classified as a historical monument in 1928, bears witness to the medieval religious architecture of the region.

Over the centuries, the church has undergone changes, especially during a restoration where the apse was re-conquered. The original crowlets were replaced by uniform consoles in two seats, supporting a tablet with shore lauzes. These transformations illustrate successive architectural adaptations while partially preserving its Romanesque heritage.

The building is now owned by the municipality of Lavernhe, located in the territory of Séverac d'Aveyron. His inscription as historic monuments in 1928 specifically concerns the apse, emphasizing its heritage importance. Available sources, such as the Merimée database or Wikipedia, confirm its status and precise location in the Rouergue.
