Origin and history
Saint-Germain-Saint-Vincent de Lisses Church is a Catholic religious building located in the municipality of Lisses, Essonne, Île-de-France. It is dedicated to Saint Germain and Saint Vincent. A first building existed in the 9th century, linked to the abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés. The present church, built in the 13th century, underwent changes in the 15th and 16th centuries, including the recasting of the tympanum in the 16th century.
In the 19th century, the bell tower was demolished because of the risk of collapse. The church is listed as historical monuments by order of 17 December 1950. In the 1990s, it was restored. The building, owned by the municipality, remains an emblematic place of local heritage.
The church reflects the architectural and religious evolution of the region, marked by medieval influences and subsequent adaptations. Its history is closely linked to that of the abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, on which it historically depended.
