Origin and history

The Keratry Hotel is a 16th-century porch house, built in 1559 in Lanvollon (Côtes-d'Armor). Its architecture is distinguished by a rich italian décor: candelabras, cartridges, putti, Renaissance costume characters and ionic capitals adorning the pillars of the porch. The croup roof, initially slender, was lowered when it was transferred to Dinan in 1938-1939, where the facades were reversed.

Ranked a Historic Monument in 1922, the house was burned in December 1933. Considered an obstacle to traffic by the municipality of Lanvollon, it was downgraded and sold in 1936. The mayor of Dinan, Michel Geistdoerfer, passionate about the preservation of wooden houses, acquired for the city and had it rebuilt at its current location, 4 rue de l'Horloge.

Today a communal property, the Keratry Hotel bears witness to the artistic exchanges of the Renaissance in Brittany, while illustrating the challenges of heritage conservation in the 20th century. Its dismantling and reassembly reflect a desire to safeguard, despite the structural adaptations suffered during its relocation.
