Origin and history
Caylus Hall is a covered market built in the 15th century, originally composed of fourteen pillars. It was located on one side of the central square of Caylus, in the department of Tarn-et-Garonne, in the Occitanie region (formerly Midi-Pyrénées). Originally, its roof was made of stone, replaced by flat tiles in the 19th century, and then with slate in the early 20th century. This type of hall played a central role in local economic life, hosting trade and community gatherings.
Ranked a historic monument by order of 16 February 1900, the hall was considered annoyance for traffic during market days. Between 1905 and 1908, it was moved and enlarged on the other side of the square under the direction of Henri Chaine, chief architect of historical monuments. The work, carried out in 1905 and 1906, extended its structure while maintaining its historical character. The hall remains today a symbol of Caylus' architectural and commercial heritage.
Available sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum, Merimée base) confirm its communal property status and past use as present, although details of its current accessibility (visits, rentals) are not specified. Its exact address, 15 Place de la Mairie, and its Insee code (82038) anchor in the territory of Tarn-et-Garonne, near Montauban.
