Origin and history

Le Calvaire de Biron is a religious architectural work in the commune of Biron, Charente-Maritime, New Aquitaine. Dating from the 17th century, this monument is distinguished by its fluted cylindrical column, surmounted by a carved capital and a cross bearing a Christ on one side and the Virgin on the other. It embodies the artistic style and Christian devotion of the modern era in France.

Ranked as historical monuments by order of 22 August 1949, the Biron Calvary testifies to the importance of religious buildings in the French rural landscape.
