Origin and history
The feudal butts of the Old-Dampierre, located in the department of the Marne (51), are medieval remains classified as Historical Monument. These structures, typical of the earth fortifications of the Middle Ages, testify to the local defensive organization at this time. Their location, although documented (INSEE code 51619), remains approximate according to available sources, with an accuracy assessed as poor (note 5/10).
These mounds were protected by a registration order on 28 July 1937, covering cadastral plots B 43-48 and 31-35. Their presence reflects the strategic importance of fortified sites in the Champagne-Ardenne region, which was marked by feudal conflicts and territorial control needs.
