The alignment of Brouel, as well as the base ground of part of Parcel B 266. The alignment of Brouel appears in the cadastre of the commune section B parcel No 266, represented on the plan attached to the decree: inscription by order of 24 July 2023

Origin and history

Brouel's alignment, located on the Middle Island in Morbihan, is a megalithic vestige dated from the Neolithic period. This type of monument, characteristic of Brittany, was probably linked to collective ritual or funeral practices. The alignments of erect stones, typical of this period, reflect a complex social organization and a remarkable technical mastery for the period.

The site was officially recognized and protected by an inscription under the Historic Monuments on 24 July 2023. This protection covers not only aligned stones, but also the soil of Parcel B 266, ensuring the preservation of its archaeological context. The island, attached to the continent by its prehistoric history, is home to other traces of ancient settlement, stressing its importance in the study of neolithic societies.

The localization of the alignment, near the point of Brouël, suggests a deliberate choice, possibly linked to geographical or astronomical landmarks. Although available sources (such as Monumentum) do not specify its exact use, these structures were often associated with ceremonies, burials or territorial markings. Their alignment could also indicate a willingness to structure space along symbolic axes.

Today, the site remains accessible, although practical information about visits is limited. Its state of conservation and its approximate location (precision noted as "passable") invite a respectful approach. However, cadastral data and GPS coordinates (383 Route de la Pointe de Brouël) allow it to be located with relative accuracy.
