Origin and history
The Blois Pavilion is a residual element of a larger estate acquired in 1711 by Mademoiselle de Blois, the legitimized daughter of Louis XIV and Madame de Montespan. Between 1711 and 1715, she transformed a bourgeois house into a hotel surrounded by a park, including a reservoir, a cooler and a miniature pavilion with rock decorations. This pavilion, the only one remaining today, bears witness to the architectural refinement of the period, with its painted panels characteristic of the 18th century rock style.
The main hotel, park, reservoir and cooler were later demolished, leaving the pavilion as the only physical trace of this estate. Ranked a Historic Monument in 1980 for its interior decoration and structure, it is now owned by a private company. Its official address, 1 rue de Monrival in Bougival (Yvelines), and its approximate location near rue Jacques Kellner underline its anchoring in a territory marked by the history of secondary aristocratic residences at the gates of Paris.
Available sources, including the Merimée and Monumentum base, confirm its protected status and heritage interest. Although its geographical accuracy is considered mediocre (level 5/10), the pavilion remains an emblematic example of the rock architecture in Île-de-France, linked to the legacy of the recreational buildings of the Enlightenment century.
