Origin and history
The Pellevoisin station, located in the municipality of the same name in the region Centre-Val de Loire, is a typical example of the old rural stations built in the 1st quarter of the 20th century. It belonged to a network of secondary lines with metric spacing, characteristic of the urbanised areas of the time. These infrastructures played a key role in the clearing of territories and the local transport of goods and passengers.
The building, inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 18 January 1993, includes protected elements such as the façades and roofs of the passenger building, the freight hall, the lamp factory, the wharf and a well. The platform and tracks, equipped with double mushroom rails, are also preserved. These improvements reflect the functional architecture of the provincial stations, adapted to the logistical needs of the time.
The line associated with this station has been declassified by SNCF, marking the end of its active rail use. Today, the site belongs in part to the municipality and to a public establishment. Its state of conservation and its status as a Historic Monument make it a valuable testimony to the history of rural transport. The location of the site is estimated as satisfactory a priori (note 6/10), based on available data.
Stations such as Pellevoisin illustrated the secondary rail network that complemented the main national lines. Their decline, linked to individual powertrains and network rationalization, has often left abandoned or converted buildings. In this case, heritage protection helps to preserve a part of the industrial and social history of the Centre-Val de Loire region.
Available sources (Monumentum, Mérimée base) specify that the station is located at 5455 La Gare, 36180 Pellevoisin, in the department of Indre (code Insee 36155). No information is provided on its current accessibility (visits, rental, accommodation), or on any tourism or cultural development projects.
