Part of Roman way covering part of C.V.O. 5: classification by decree of 20 July 1942
Origin and history
The Roman way of Mardore, located in Thizy-les-Bourgs (formerly Mardore, a municipality incorporated in 2013), is a vestige classified as a Historic Monument since July 20, 1942. This section is part of the Roman road network in Gaul, specifically the Cursus Publicus (imperial road system), and covers a section of the Chemin de la Vallée d'Ozon (C.V.O. 5). Its route, still partially visible, illustrates Roman engineering designed to connect the cities and facilitate military and commercial exchanges.
The protection of this monument by decree in 1942 underlines its archaeological importance. Owned by the municipality of Thizy-les-Bourgs, the track is located near the Chemin du Suchet, although the accuracy of its geolocation is considered "passable" (level 6/10). No information is available on its current accessibility or integration into tourist circuits. The data comes mainly from the Merimée database and the Monumentum platform.
In ancient times, the Roman ways structured the territory, linking the civitas (city) and the military camps. In the Lyon region, a strategic crossroads, these axes played a key role in controlling Gaul and transporting goods between the Mediterranean and inland. Mardore's route is in this context, although its exact route and final destination are not detailed in the available sources.
