Origin and history

The commemorative inscription of the passage from Louis XIII to Bram is engraved on an irregular stone, integrated into the masonry of a house located at the north corner of it. The original crepasing was removed to place two lines in Latin: "LE ROY LOUIS XIII BAM / XX OCTOBRO 1632", marking the royal visit. This stone, now classified as a Historical Monument since 1930, offers a direct testimony of the event, linked to the political turmoil of the period, including the revolt of Gaston d'Orléans and the Duke of Montmorency, an episode of which took place near Castelnaudary and Fresquel, near Bram.

The location of the inscription at 4 Rue de la Ferronnerie corresponds to an approximate address from the GPS coordinates, with an accuracy deemed satisfactory (note 7/10). The stone, embedded in a private facade, was protected by ministerial decree for its historical interest, although its access is not explicitly mentioned as open to the public. Its current state and visibility depend on the conservation of the surrounding structure, without major changes since its discovery and classification.

The historical context of 1632 evokes a period of tension in Languedoc, where the revolt of the great lords against Richelieu found a local echo. Bram, located on a strategic axis between Toulouse and Carcassonne, was thus a notable place of passage for Louis XIII during his movements linked to the repression of the uprisings. The inscription, by its simplicity and authenticity, illustrates the desire to lastingly mark the memory of a royal event in a region then agitated by political and military conflicts.
