Origin and history

The race bridge, located in Saint-Brieuc, Brittany, was built by the engineer Louis Harel de la Noë for the railways of the Côtes-du-Nord. It is distinguished by its unique arch of 12 meters, integrated in a 40 meters long structure. This bridge passes under an arch of the viaduct of the Western Railway Company, built in 1886 for the line of Saint-Brieuc at the Légué, now disused.

Listed as a historic monument in 2018, the Races Bridge was rehabilitated by the association of North Coast Railways in 2020. Now accessible only to pedestrians and cyclists, it bears witness to local railway history while offering contemporary use adapted to soft mobility. The upper viaduct remains unused.

Owned by the Côtes-d-Armor department, the bridge is identified in the Merimée base under the cadastral plots BS n°188 and BV n°35. Its official address, 54 chemin des Courses, makes it a heritage element anchored in the briochin landscape, between industrial memory and ecological conversion.
