Cross located in the cemetery: classification by decree of 22 January 1931

Origin and history

The cross of Asnières-en-Montagne, located in the communal cemetery, dates from the 16th century. This monument, typical of the religious achievements of the Renaissance in Burgundy, was classified as Historical Monument by ministerial decree in 1931. Its precise location, noted as "passable" (level 5/10), corresponds to the address 2 Rue de la Poterne in this commune of Côte-d'Or.

The 16th century cemetery crosses in Burgundy-Franche-Comté often marked the sacred space and served as a landmark for religious processions. Their presence reflected the importance of the Christian faith in the organization of villages, where the church and its environment played a central role in community life. These monuments, usually stone, were also status symbols for parishes.

The protection of this cross in 1931 is part of a period of increased preservation of the French rural heritage. Data from the Mérimée database indicate that it belongs to the commune of Asnières-en-Montagne, whose Insee code (21026) confirms its connection to the department of Côte-d'Or and to the region Burgundy-Franche-Comté. No information is available on its current accessibility or tourist use.
