Origin and history
The dungeon of Lastic is a strong house attested as early as 1493, located in the municipality of Saou, Drôme. Although its origins date back to the 14th century, the site was profoundly renovated around 1577 by the Lastic family, which gave it its present appearance. Originally integrated into a defensive ensemble, it was known as La Tour in 17th century documents, such as the 1650 parcellaire or the map of Cassini (1760). His history was marked by the upheavals of the Revolution: sold as a national good in 1793, it was divided into eight lots and severely damaged. The creation of a departmental road (CD 136) around 1880 further fragment the enclosure, isolating the two northern towers, one of which is now in ruins.
The monument retains remarkable elements, such as a sundial on the tower still standing and a re-used gate, from the old tidal barn of Saint Thiers Abbey in Saou. The polygonal tower, home to the staircase of the present dwelling, was the first part of the inventory of Historic Monuments on October 21, 1926. Transformed into a gite, the Lastic dungeon now offers accommodation in a classified site, between medieval remains and preserved landscapes. Its official inscription in 1926 underscores its heritage value, despite the alterations suffered over the centuries.
The location of the dungeon, at approximately 60 Route de la Forêt, enjoys a remarkable natural environment, as evidenced by the geographical accuracy rating of 6/10 in the Merimée base. This site illustrates the evolution of fortified houses in residential castle, typical of the noble architecture of Drôme between the Middle Ages and Renaissance. The available sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum) confirm its status as an emblematic monument of Drômois heritage, linked to the local seigneurial and religious history.
