Origin and history

The Abri du Marin de San Marino is a former place of welcome for fishermen sailors, located on the port of San Marino, in the commune of Combrit (Finistère). Founded in 1910 by Jacques de Thézac, it is part of the "Abris du Marin" network, a charitable initiative to provide decent accommodation for sea workers. The building remained active until 1985, marking nearly 75 years of service to local maritime communities.

Acquired by the municipality in 1992, the shelter is converted into a cultural space, housing an associative library and exhibitions. In 2007, it was added to the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments, triggering a major restoration to regain its original appearance. Since November 2008, it has functioned as a museum dedicated to the life of Jacques de Thézac, to the history of Breton fishermen, and hosts annual exhibitions with maritime theme.

The site illustrates the social and architectural heritage of the Abris du Marin, a pioneering work of the early twentieth century. Its designation as historic monuments in 2007 underscores its heritage importance, both for its past role and for its current vocation to transmit Breton maritime memory. The official sources (Merimée, Wikipedia) confirm his address at 13 quai Jacques-de-Thézac, in the territory of Combrit, in Finistère.
