Part between the terminals 0, 500 km and 1, 300 km of the C.I.C. 132 from Ouroux to the Huis-Picard : classification by order of 25 March 1938
Origin and history
The Roman road from Autun to Orléans, located in the commune of Ouroux-en-Morvan (Nièvre, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté), is a monument dating from ancient times. This section of the road, classified as Monument Historique by decree of 25 March 1938, illustrates the importance of the communication networks built by the Romans to connect the main cities of Gaul. The protected part extends between the terminals 0,500 km and 1,300 km of the C.I.C. 132 from Ouroux to the Huis-Picard, highlighting its strategic role in the ancient territorial organization.
In Roman times, channels of communication played a central role in military administration, trade and travel. These roads, often paved and straight, facilitated exchanges between cities and regions, while strengthening the cohesion of the Empire. In Morvan, as elsewhere in Gaul, these infrastructures have also contributed to the economic and cultural development of local populations, linking major urban centres such as Autun (Augustodunum) and Orléans (Cenabum).
