Origin and history

The church of the Assumption, located in Valenton (Val-de-Marne), is a parish church whose first architectural elements date back to the 13th century. These vestiges suggest a major reconstruction at that time, although the details of this phase remain unclear. The building preserves traces of this medieval period, characteristic of the rural churches of Île-de-France.

A significant reshuffle of the choir was made between 1779 and 1781, reflecting the stylistic and liturgical evolutions of the late eighteenth century. This project, although documented, does not specify the exact motivations for these transformations, nor the craftsmen involved. The church remains a testimony of the successive adaptations of places of worship to the needs of local communities.

In January 2025, the Cardinal's Buildings Association decided to finance the roof renovation in full, amounting to 45,000 euros. This recent intervention illustrates the contemporary commitment to preserving religious heritage, often threatened by lack of resources. The church, still active, continues to play a central role in Valenton's parish life.
