Origin and history

The Jewish Manor Farm is an emblematic monument of the Brassian rural architecture, located in the municipality of Jewish, Saône-et-Loire. Built in the 17th century, it illustrates the agricultural and domestic traditions of the area, with characteristic elements such as a dovecote, a barn and outbuildings organized around a central courtyard. This type of manor farm, both a place of residence and a place of exploitation, reflects the socio-economic organization of the Burgundy countryside of the modern era, where agriculture and livestock structure daily life.

Classified as historical monuments since 19 May 1994, the Jewish manor farm has been protected by several of its constituent elements: the main dwelling, the accommodation (animal shelter), a barn, a barn, a pig sow topped by a dovecote, and the well and soil of the plot concerned. This heritage recognition underlines its importance as a witness to rural history and the evolution of agricultural techniques in Bresse. The whole, although little documented about its owners or its precise uses, offers a remarkable example of the adaptation of constructions to the needs of 17th century peasant communities.

The location of the manor farm, at 2025 Road from Simard to Jew, in the department of Saône-et-Loire, makes it a point of interest for the study of the built heritage of Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Its classification among historical monuments also places it in a wider network of protected sites, contributing to the development of the territory and its agricultural history. The available sources, although limited to architectural and administrative descriptions, make it possible to appreciate the heritage value and its anchoring in the Bressan landscape.
