Origin and history

The chapel Notre-Dame de Kerven is a religious building located in the commune of Trégunc in Finistère (Bretagne). Built in the 16th century, it is representative of the Breton religious architecture of the Renaissance, with a nave flanked by asymmetrical lower sides (five spans to the south, four to the north) and a rectangular choir. Its 18th-century altarpiece, decorated with torso columns, as well as its statues of local saints (Fiacre, Herbot, Nicodemus) and stained glass windows illustrating the life of the Virgin (Visitation, Adoration of the Magi, Escape in Egypt) testify to its rich artistic heritage. A granite calvary sits on its placister, typical of Breton parish enclosures.

The chapel was allegedly founded under the influence of Locmaria-Quimper Abbey, which exercised pre-eminence rights and organized an annual pardon on 8 September, a date linked to the Nativity of the Virgin. This link with the abbey, as well as the erased coat of arms of the founder visible on the arrow, suggest a monastic or seigneurial origin. Since 1932, the chapel has belonged to the commune of Trégunc. Its openwork bell and its discreet transept make it a modest but characteristic example of the Finnish religious heritage.

The protected elements include the entire chapel (cadastre ZN 125), with its high altar framed by carved woodwork. The stained glass, although partially described, features Marian episodes, while the coat of arms at the top of the arrow remains a mystery because of its degraded state. The location, noted as "satisfactory" (level 6/10), places the monument at the place called Kerven, near the center of Trégunc. No information is available on its current accessibility or possible tourist functions (visits, rentals).
