Origin and history
The Mabille-Duchêne hotel is a private hotel located in the village of Baugé, now integrated into the municipality of Baugé-en-Anjou, Maine-et-Loire. Its main house body, built in 1594 as evidenced by the date on the façade, illustrates the civil architecture of the late Renaissance. This building was gradually enlarged, especially in the seventeenth century by the addition of a secondary body housing a staircase, then in 1796 with a resumption of the anterior façade, also dated.
The communes, originally built in the 17th century, underwent changes in the 19th century, while a body of passage was built in 1848, bearing this date. The property also includes a tower of enclosure dating from the late sixteenth century, vestige of fortifications or outbuildings of origin. These successive transformations reflect the evolution of residential needs and architectural tastes over nearly three centuries.
The whole, including the house of dwelling (cadastre AB 35), was registered as historical monuments by order of 21 May 1992. This protection recognizes the heritage value of a building marked by construction and modification campaigns ranging from the last quarter of the 16th century to the mid-19th century. No information is available on any historic owners or sponsors.
The hotel's precise location at 57 rue Georges-Clémenceau and its Insee code (49018) place it in an urban fabric characteristic of Anjou. The available sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum, Merimée base) highlight its architectural interest, but do not provide details on its current use (visit, accommodation, etc.).
