Origin and history
The cross of Cézens is a monumental cross located in the village of Cézens, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Dating from the fifteenth century, it is distinguished by its architectural characteristics typical of this period. It is located in the public square, a central gathering place for the inhabitants of the village. Its designation as historical monuments by order of 8 May 1930 bears witness to its heritage importance and historical value.
One side of the cross presents a representation of Christ on the cross, an iconographic motif common in the medieval monumental crosses. This artistic detail reinforces its religious and symbolic character, reflecting the Christian devotion of the time. The cross, owned by the commune, is a well preserved example of 15th century rural religious art in Auvergne.
