Origin and history

The Musée de l'École d'avérient is located in the hamlet of Valayans, in the commune of Pernes-Les-Fontaines. This place preserves the memory of rural schools, typical of provencal villages before the modernization of the education system. The absence of a specific period of time in available sources does not allow an accurate date of origin or evolution.

Village schools, like the one mentioned by this museum, played a central role in community life. They were often the only place of instruction for rural children, where the basics of reading, writing and numeracy were taught. These institutions also reflected local values and lifestyles, while participating in the transmission of TK.
