Origin and history

The Saint-Martin church of Hatriz has a forerunner in Romanesque style, while its nave and square choir date back to the 15th and 16th centuries. These elements reflect the architectural evolutions of the late medieval period, with a marked Gothic influence. The tower and the first span of the nave were added in 1771, illustrating a phase of modernization of the building under the Old Regime.

A former 16th century seigneurial chapel dedicated to the Conception Notre-Dame was transformed into a sacristy in 1841. It preserves the coat of arms of local noble families: Les Landres, Watronville, Haussonville and Châtillon-Anglure. These heraldic elements testify to the social and religious importance of these lines in the region. A Romanesque door, re-used in the nave, and a 1630 cartridge on the bell tower recall the successive transformations of the building.

The portal of the old cemetery, dated 1630 and decorated with coats of arms of the Colart de Hatrize family, comes from a missing property. Back in the 1950s, he highlighted the link between the monument and local history. The church, including this portal, was listed as a Historic Monument in 1990, recognizing its heritage value.

The precise location of the building, at the address 20 Rue de l'Eglise in Hatrize (Meurthe-et-Moselle), is documented with a precision considered very satisfactory. This monument, owned by the commune, embodies centuries of religious and architectural history in Lorraine.
