Origin and history
The church of Saint-Lambert-et-Saint-Blaise, located in Saint-Lambert in the Yvelines, is a Catholic religious building dating back to the 13th century. The original building was destroyed and rebuilt during the second quarter of the 14th century, with a dedication recorded in 1539. A major addition, a southern vessel, was added in the 19th century, although some openings were blocked later.
Over the centuries, the church has undergone several architectural changes, including the addition of a porch in the 19th century. A lantern of the dead, once present, was destroyed after 1952. The non-figurative stained glass windows, created in 1960 by Lorin, mark a modernization of the building. The adjacent cemetery has been listed as a historical monument since 1926, while the church itself is listed the same year, and its bell in 1944.
The church is dedicated to two patron saints: Saint Lambert and Saint Blaise. It is now owned by the commune of Saint-Lambert and remains an active place of worship, while at the same time bearing witness to the architectural and historical evolution of the region.
The location of the building, although documented, is considered approximate, with an accuracy considered fair. The church is a typical example of the religious buildings in the Île-de-France region, having gone through several periods of reconstruction and beautification.
Available sources, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, confirm its status as a historical monument, with protected elements such as the church itself and the cemetery. These protections reflect the heritage importance of the building in the cultural landscape of the Yvelines.
Finally, the church of Saint-Lambert-et-Saint-Blaise illustrates the central role of parish churches in community life, both spiritually and socially, from the Middle Ages to contemporary times.
