Origin and history
The thermal baths of Mont Cornadore, located at Saint-Nectaire in Puy-de-Dôme, were founded in 1832 as an autonomous thermal establishment. The Villa des Bains (1839) and a hotel (1841) initially completed the site. These buildings responded to the rise of thermal cures in the 19th century, attracting a clientele seeking care by local mineral waters, typical of the Auvergne resorts.
Between 1873 and 1875, the ensemble underwent major modernization: expansion of the hotel, creation of a terrace and a café, and transformation of the thermal establishment. A painted brick facade was erected, opening onto a glass gallery with tiled floors of floral friezes, serving two cabin wings. At the back, the Villa housed the spray and spring rooms, illustrating the evolution of bathing practices.
The establishment was listed for historical monuments on 3 February 2011, recognizing its architectural heritage and its role in regional thermal history. Today, it bears witness to the constructive techniques of the 19th century and the golden age of the spas in Auvergne, mixing medical heritage and architectural elegance.
The property, shared between a private company and the municipality, retains protected elements such as cabins, the source room and the adjoining villa. Its exact address (5005 Rue Mandon) and its Insee code (63380) anchor the site in the territory of Puy-de-Dôme, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
