Origin and history
Saint-Lieux-Lafenasse is a historic monument whose dating is debated. Some historians suggest an Irish origin in the 18th century, while the cadastre and its architecture indicate a 19th century construction. This building, designed to house some 20 cattle, was associated with the Blanchissage farm. Its circular plan, rare for the time, reflects a functional approach advocated in the 19th century for breeding, with an optimized organization around a central rotunda.
The structure consists of two distinct parts: a rectangular brick hangar serving as access, and a main rotunda divided into a vaulted barn in the centre, surrounded by an annular gallery. This gallery communicates with external compartments with cut strips, intended for livestock, giving the whole a characteristic polygonal shape. The vaults, in the teeth of a saw, add an architectural singularity to this rural building, classified Historical Monument by decree of 30 January 1995.
The architect André Louis is mentioned as the project manager, although the sources do not specify his exact role in the design. The farmhouse, located at the address 5001 La Métairie Ronde in Saint-Lieux-Lafenasse (Tarn), has a geolocalized location deemed a priori satisfactory (note 6/10). Its state of conservation and current use (visits, rentals) are not detailed in the available sources, but its ranking reflects its heritage importance in the Occitanie region.
