Origin and history

The Pont Saint-Blaise de Najac, located in the department of Aveyron in the Occitanie region, is a medieval building built between 1259 and 1274. It crosses the commune of Najac and is distinguished by its two large arches in the middle of the hang, supplemented by two smaller lateral arches, now hidden. The piles, with upstream beaks and shelters, as well as the parapets supported by modillons, bear witness to architectural techniques characteristic of the era. The bridge was restored in 1404 and classified as historical monuments on 10 February 1987.

In 2022, the bridge suffered damage during the passage of military vehicles, followed in 2023 by a controversy surrounding a renovation deemed controversial, called "architectural carnage" by journalist Maxime Carsel. These recent events have highlighted the challenges of preserving this medieval heritage, owned by the municipality of Najac.

Available sources, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, highlight its historical and architectural importance. The bridge is listed in the Merimée base under Insee code 12167, confirming its anchoring in the Aveyron heritage. Its approximate address, 5398 Saint-Blaise, and GPS location place it in the heart of the rouergat landscape, between medieval heritage and contemporary conservation challenges.
