Origin and history
The church Saint-Pierre de Lancôme, located in the Loir-et-Cher department in the Centre-Val de Loire region, is a religious building whose origins date back to at least the eleventh century. Although its existence is attested from this period, the oldest preserved parts date back to the twelfth century. The church was then a possession of the abbey of the Trinity of Vendôme, reflecting its importance in the regional monastic network.
The church choir was modified at the end of the Middle Ages, while the nave preserves traces of painted decorations, including a set of murals covering almost its entire surface. Among these works, two major scenes were identified: the Dit des Trois Morts et des Trois Vifs (late 15th or early 16th century) and a monumental representation of Saint-Christophe, a rare iconography in the Loir-et-Cher. These paintings, along with fragments of a 13th century decoration near the choir, illustrate the artistic and spiritual evolution of the monument throughout the centuries.
Classified as historical monuments in 1990, the Saint Peter's church includes in its protection all its murals, whether unobstructed or not. This classification highlights the exceptional heritage value of the building, both for its architecture and for its interior decor. Today owned by the municipality of Lancôme, it remains a valuable testimony of medieval religious art and its local anchor.
The available sources, including references to the Merimée base and Monumentum's observations, confirm the church's precise address (5 Rue de la Cisse) and its Insee code (41108), placing the monument in a well-documented geographical and administrative setting. The accuracy of its location is estimated to be "a priori satisfactory", facilitating its access and study.
