Origin and history

The church of Notre-Dame de Ménestreau-en-Villette, located in the Loiret department in the Centre-Val de Loire region, is a religious building whose origins may date back to the late twelfth century. Although its exact date of construction is not documented, the vaulted choir is the oldest part of the building, bearing witness to its medieval heritage. Subsequent transformations, particularly in the 19th century, marked its architectural evolution, while preserving major historical elements.

The discovery of murals under the coatings revealed a remarkable angel concert dating back to the late 13th century, highlighting the artistic and spiritual importance of the place. These frescoes, hidden for centuries, offer a rare glimpse of the religious decoration of the medieval era. Classified as a Historical Monument by order of 9 March 2015, the church in its entirety (Place du 11-Novembre) is today protected, reflecting its heritage and community role.

Property of the municipality of Ménestreau-en-Villette, the church Notre-Dame embodies both a place of worship and an architectural testimony of medieval and modern times. Its location, reported with geographical accuracy deemed to be satisfactory (note 6/10), and its official address (place of 11 November) make it an accessible local point of interest, although the terms of visit or current use (rent, guest rooms) are not specified in the available sources.
