Origin and history

The Church of Notre-Dame-de-l-I-Assumption of Maillé is a religious building located in the commune of Maillé, in Vendée (Pays de la Loire). Dating from the 12th century, it illustrates the Romanesque architecture of the region, with a western facade partially classified and protected. This monument, owned by the municipality, bears witness to the local medieval history and the importance of parish churches in the social and spiritual organization of the period.

The western façade of the church was the subject of two separate protective measures: an inscription by decree in 1927 for the non-Romanesque part, and a classification in 1988 for its Romanesque section. These protections highlight the heritage value of the building, mixing medieval heritage and subsequent developments. Although the available sources do not specify its current use (visits, cults, etc.), its status as a Historic Monument makes it a place of interest for the study of sacred art in Vendée.

Geographical data indicate an approximate location at Place de l'Eglise, in a town whose history is linked to that of the Pays de la Loire region. Map accuracy, noted as "passable" (5/10), suggests that local checks could refine its exact position. No information is available on any historical characters related to its construction or evolution.
