Origin and history
The church Saint-Géraud de Salles-Curan, located in the Aveyron department in the Occitanie region, is a religious building whose essential parts were rebuilt in the 15th century under the impulse of Guillaume de la Tour, then bishop of Rodez. In 1466 it was erected as a collegiate body, with a chapter composed of six canons. The gallery, added at the end of the 15th century, as well as the first northern chapel, with a star vault, testify to its characteristic architecture of this period.
The bell tower, partially modern in its upper floors, contrasts with medieval elements. The stained glass windows, offered by François d'Estaing (Bishop of Rodez from 1504 to 1529), and the painting La Résurrection de la fille de Jaïre de Jacques Pilliard enrich his artistic heritage. The building was listed as historic monuments on June 28, 1927, recognizing its heritage value.
The church, owned by the commune of Salles-Curan, illustrates the religious and architectural importance of Rouergue at the end of the Middle Ages. His history is documented in specialized books, such as those by Jacques Dubois and Françoise Gatouillat, published by the Société française d'archéologie in 2011. These studies highlight in particular its architectural peculiarities and stained glass windows, key elements of its historical identity.
