Origin and history

The church Sainte-Marie-Madeleine de Montigny-le-Roi, located in the commune of Val-de-Meuse (Grand Est), dates from the 4th quarter of the 18th century. This religious monument, typical of the architecture of this period, is distinguished by protected elements such as its wrought iron gate, classified as Historical Monuments.

The choir grid, dating from the 18th century, was inscribed by ministerial decree on 23 December 1925. This architectural detail illustrates the know-how of local ironwork artisans. The building, owned by the commune, remains a testimony to the religious and heritage history of the Haute-Marne.

The historical context of its construction coincided with a period of architectural transition, when rural churches incorporated more elaborate decorative elements. The region, then marked by an agricultural and artisanal economy, saw these buildings play a central role in community life, both spiritual and social.
