Origin and history

The church of Saint-Thibault de Mandres-les-Roses came into being in the 13th century, where a chapel dedicated to Saint Thibault, a hermit monk, was erected on this site. This chapel, which became parish in 1420, was officially consecrated to St.Thibault in 1453, marking its local religious importance. The traces of this first construction remain in the archives, although the present building differs greatly from this medieval era.

In the 17th century, the church was enriched by notable figures, including Catherine de la Guette, born Meurdrac, who was baptized there in 1613 and mentioned her marriage in her Memoirs. In 1623 Lucrece de Montonvilliers added a chapel to it, and its tomb is still present. These additions reflect the influence of aristocratic families on the religious heritage of the region.

The present building is the result of a major reconstruction in the 18th century, adopting an almost square plan, before being razed in 1810 and completed in 1848. Significant interior works in 1928 modernized its appearance, while preserving historical elements such as the decoration of the chapel of Saint Angels, offered by Lucrece de Montonvilliers in 1833. These transformations illustrate the architectural and liturgical evolution of the church over centuries.
