Origin and history
The Saint-Cyr church of Saint-Ciers-Champagne, located in the Charente-Maritime department in New Aquitaine, dates mainly from the 15th century. It illustrates the radiant Gothic style, especially visible in its semi-pillars decorated with columnettes and its partially preserved arches of warheads. The south side bell tower, vaulted with warheads, features broken arch windows with redents on the first floor and grooved bays with trilobed arches on the second, typical of this architectural period.
The nave, though covered with a modern false vault, preserves the departures of the 14th century warhead vaults, bearing witness to an earlier phase of construction. The exterior façade, largely redesigned, preserves a Gothic archature near the gate. These architectural features reflect stylistic developments between the 14th and 15th centuries in the region.
The building has been listed as historic monuments since April 5, 1935, a recognition that specifically concerns its bell tower. This protection highlights its heritage importance, especially for its Gothic architecture and intact decorative elements. The precise location of the church is attested at the address 1 Impasse of the Church, confirming its anchoring in the urban fabric of Saint-Ciers-Champagne.
