Origin and history
The church of Saint-Martin de Remilly-les-Pothées is a religious building located in the municipality of the same name, in the department of Ardennes, in the Grand Est region. Built in the 16th century, it is a typical example of the religious architecture of this period in this rural region, marked by late Gothic influences and renaissance.
The church was listed as historic monuments in 1991, recognizing its heritage value. This status protects its architecture and its characteristic elements, while stressing its importance in the local cultural landscape. Today it is owned by the commune and remains a place of worship and assembly for the population.
In the 16th century, churches like Saint Martin played a central role in village life. They served not only as a place of prayer, but also as a framework for community gatherings, religious holidays and local decisions. In the Ardennes, a region marked by a rural and artisanal economy, these buildings were often at the heart of the social and spiritual life of the inhabitants.
