Origin and history
The Fonds régional d'art contemporain (FRAC) Champagne-Ardenne was established in 1984 as part of a national initiative to support the creation and dissemination of contemporary art. Like the other FRACs in France, its mission includes the creation of a collection of various works (painting, sculpture, video, etc.), the organization of temporary exhibitions, as well as educational actions to raise awareness among the general public. Its establishment in Reims is part of a dynamic of cultural decentralization.
Since 1990, FRAC Champagne-Ardenne has been installed in the right wing of the former Jesuit College, located on rue Gambetta in Reims. This historic building offers a heritage setting to a collection of nearly 800 works, reflecting the diversity of contemporary artistic practices. FRAC plays a key role in the region's cultural outreach, including travelling exhibitions and partnerships with local institutions (schools, media libraries, hospitals).
FRAC actively participates in national events such as WE Frac, while collaborating with cultural structures in France and abroad. His exhibitions, often designed in partnership, aim to make contemporary art accessible and stimulate innovative projects. The "participatory" dissemination of its collection, through loans and educational programmes, strengthens its territorial anchor and its social impact.
