Origin and history

The Saint-Sernin church of Eroles is a Romanesque church today in ruins, located in the commune of Ria-Sirach, in the department of the Pyrénées-Orientales. This monument illustrates the medieval religious architecture typical of the region, marked by its sober style and local materials, often linked to the stone. Romanesque churches, like that of Eroles, played a central role in the organization of Pyrenean villages in the Middle Ages.

They served not only as a place of worship, but also as a gathering point for the community, strengthening social and spiritual ties. Their implementation often reflected strategic choices related to topography or the presence of old communication channels.
