Antique cross and the four columns that flank it: by order of 9 February 1923; 15th century grave in the cemetery: by order of 1 May 1923

Origin and history

The cemetery of Thégra, located in the Lot in the Occitanie region, houses two remarkable elements dating back to the 15th century. A stone cross adorned with an empty niche, originally destined for a statue today disappeared, dominates space. Above, a figure of Christ is carved, while the altar, consisting of two superimposed blocks, served at the offices of the deceased. Four circular columns, arranged at the angles of a rectangle, suggest the past existence of a roof, now absent.

The second characteristic is a 15th century tomb, rectangular, carved from a vaulted cavity in a cradle and surmounted by a stone slab roof. This type of burial, rare, bears witness to medieval funeral practices. The cross and its columns, as well as the tomb, were classified as Historic Monuments in 1923, highlighting their heritage value.

The protected elements include the ancient cross with its four columns (classified February 9, 1923) and the tomb (classified May 1, 1923). Their state of conservation and their precise location in the cemetery remain partially documented, with geographical accuracy considered to be satisfactory (note 6/10).
