Dolmen des Fosses (Case A 496) : Order of 12 July 1989

Origin and history

The Dolmen des Fosses is a megalithic monument located in the commune of Soucirac, in the Lot department (46), in the Occitan region. This site, whose location is estimated as fair (level 5/10), has been classified as Historic Monument since July 12, 1989. It bears the name of "Dolmen des Fosses" and is referenced under the cadastral plot A 496.

The dolmens, typical of Neolithic, were generally used as collective burials. In Quercy, the region to which Soucirac belongs, these structures attest to an ancient human occupation and a complex social organization. Their presence often reflects funeral practices and beliefs related to death, characteristic of prehistoric societies of that time.

No specific information on excavations or archaeological discoveries related to this dolmen is mentioned in the available sources.
