Origin and history

The building in Sarlat-la-Canéda, dated from the 15th century, is distinguished by its facade in corbelled wooden panels, characteristic of local architecture. This structure is based on crows made of carved stone, while a door decorated with florets and pinnacles gives access to a screw staircase contained in an octagonal turret, also made of cut stone. These stylistic elements evoke 16th century influences, although the initial construction dates back to the previous century.

Ranked a Historic Monument by order of 30 May 1944, the building specifically protects its facade on street, turret and roof. These protections highlight the heritage value of its architectural details, such as mouldings and carved decorations, which bear witness to the artisanal know-how of the time. The precise address, 1 or 8 rue Salamandre, confirms its anchoring in the historic center of Sarlat-la-Canéda, a city renowned for its medieval heritage.

The location of the building, noted with a priori satisfactory accuracy (level 6/10), allows us to envisage its integration into the medieval urban fabric of the city. Although the practical information about his visit or his current use (rent, guest rooms) is not specified, his classification attests to his importance in the built heritage of New Aquitaine, and more particularly the Dordogne.
