Façades sur rue et Roofs: inscription by decree of 16 May 1944

Origin and history

The buildings at numbers 1, 3, 5 and 11 of Rue Neuve in Lille constitute a 17th century architectural complex. These buildings, whose facades on street and roofs are protected, were inscribed as Historic Monuments by order of 16 May 1944. Their location, in the historic heart of Lille, reflects the town's urban planning at this time.

The protection of these buildings is part of a desire to preserve the architectural heritage of Nord-Pas-de-Calais (now Hauts-de-France). Their style, typical of the seventeenth century, bears witness to the artistic influences and construction techniques of the period. Although their exact use is not specified in the sources, their conservation allows us to study the urban evolution of Lille.

Available data from the Merimée database and Monumentum indicate an approximate location with an accuracy considered fair (note 5/10). No information is provided on their current accessibility, contemporary use or possible historical characters related to their construction.
