Origin and history

The Manor of La Barrée, located in Channay-sur-Lathan (Indre-et-Loire), is a former fiefdom of the seigneuries of Charentilly and Rillé. Qualified as a châtellerie in 1712, it consists of a rectangular house of one floor, topped by high attices, and a polygonal tower of stairs. The ensemble is girded with a enclosure and moat, with an entrance door framed with Gothic windows and flanked by two round towers of defense. A two arched, original, sleeping bridge allows access to the domain.

The house was enlarged identically to the west in the 19th century, while the southeast tower was transformed into a chapel during the same period. Inside, a late 16th century chimney keeps paintings on its coat. The manor house has been listed for historical monuments since 13 March 1975, with protection covering facades, roofs of towers, remains of towers of the entrance gate, moat and bridge.

The estate also includes outbuildings organized in quadrilateral, closed to the east by a building. A second bridge, with a broken arch arch, crossed the moat to reach the lower courtyard. This bridge is surmounted by the remains of an old gate tower, now reduced to two walls perpendicular to the moat. The exact address of the mansion is 10 Cht de la Barree, 37330 Channay-sur-Lathan.
