Origin and history

The hotel of Mademoiselle Mars is a mansion built in 1820 by architect Louis Visconti for the Marshal of Gouvion-Saint-Cyr, on a plot previously acquired from the Receiver General Augustin Lapeyrière. Located at 1 rue de la Tour-des-Dames and 7 rue de La Rochefoucauld, in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, this building illustrates the aristocratic residential architecture of the time.

In 1824, the marshal sold the hotel to actress Miss Mars, who gave her her current name. The building is remarkable for its facades, roof, hand-made wallpapers and stucco columns, restored in 1985 by architect Michel Mimran according to traditional methods. These elements have contributed to its classification as historical monuments since 30 December 1977.

The hotel embodies the Parisian heritage of the early 19th century, mixing military history (via Gouvion-Saint-Cyr), cultural life (Mademoiselle Mars) and artisanal know-how. Its rehabilitation in the 20th century underlines the importance attached to the preservation of interior decorations, typical of the mansions of the time.
