Origin and history
Hotel de Vic is a private hotel located at 77 rue du Temple, in the 3rd arrondissement of Paris. Built in the 17th century, it is a typical example of the civil architecture of the time in the capital. Its inscription as a Historic Monument in 1974 bears witness to its heritage importance, especially for its facade and roof on street, which illustrate architectural styles in vogue under the Ancien Régime.
The 17th century Parisian mansions were often sponsored by the aristocracy or the affluent bourgeoisie. They served both as urban residence and as a symbol of social status. The Hotel de Vic, by its location in the Marais, a neighbourhood then growing, reflects this dynamic.
These buildings were designed to combine comfort, representation and integration into the dense urban fabric of Paris. Their preservation today makes it possible to understand the evolution of the city and the lifestyles of its elites.
