Origin and history

Decazeville City Hall is an iconic building built during the 3rd quarter of the 19th century. Located in Decazes Square, it embodies the municipal architecture of this industrial period in Aveyron, a region then marked by the mining and metallurgical boom. The building, owned by the municipality, houses symbolic spaces such as the wedding hall and the municipal council hall, reflecting its central role in local administrative and social life.

Ranked among the Historical Monuments, the city hall has seen its facades, roofs, as well as its emblematic rooms protected by a decree of 17 December 2019. This protection highlights the heritage value of the building, both for its architecture and for its anchoring in the urban history of Decazeville. The location, noted as "a priori satisfactory" in the databases, confirms its importance in the landscape of the city, now integrated into the Occitanie region.

The historical context of Decazeville in the 19th century was marked by an economy oriented towards mining and steel, activities which shaped its development. The city hall, as a place of power and decision-making, played a key role in the organization of this changing society. Its architecture and preservation testify to this pivotal period, between rural tradition and industrial revolution.
