Pigeonnier du Bouyssou: by order of 22 October 1946
Origin and history
The Pigeonier du Bouyssou is a remarkable building located in Cintegabelle, in the department of Haute-Garonne, in the Occitanie region. This monument is distinguished by its brick architecture, with a dome decorated with four bell towers and a central bell tower forming a lantern. These architectural features are a typical example of the area's dovecotes, often associated with agricultural or seigneurial properties.
Ranked a Historic Monument by order of October 22, 1946, the Bouyssou pigeon-house bears witness to the historic and heritage significance of this type of construction. Pigeons, once reserved for lords or large landowners, served as both a symbol of prestige and practical utility, sheltering pigeons for their meat, eggs or manure, used as fertilizer. In the rural context of Occitanie, these buildings played a significant economic and social role, reflecting the hierarchies and lifestyles of the time.
