Manoir de la Boissière : inscription by order of 17 April 1926

Origin and history

The manor house of La Boissière is an emblematic building of the 15th and 16th centuries, located in the commune of La Croix-Saint-Leufroy in Normandy. This monument, inscribed in the inventory of Historical Monuments by decree of 17 April 1926, illustrates the civil architecture of the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Its location, attested by the Mérimée and Monumentum bases, places it at 23 Rue du Bois Biron, in a rural setting characteristic of the Valley of Eure.

The construction of the mansion is part of a period of transition between medieval defensive structures and the more comfortable residences of the Renaissance. At that time, Normandy, a region marked by prosperous agriculture and dynamic trade, saw the development of seigneurial or bourgeois houses. These buildings reflect the social status of their owners and often serve as an administrative or economic centre for the surrounding lands.

The inscription of the mansion as a Historic Monument in 1926 underscores its heritage value, although the available sources do not specify the details of its history or its occupants. The location, considered "a priori satisfactory" (note 7/10), allows to situate the monument in a still partially preserved environment, despite the absence of precise data on its current state or contemporary uses (visits, accommodation, etc.).
