Origin and history

The church of Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens de Pannes was founded in the 7th century by the Abbey of Ferrières, which also established a priory. At the end of the 11th century, the Pope's donation of relics of St Peter to the local lord triggered the construction of a new building, completed around 1120. The materials of the previous church were reused, and only the base and the first two levels of the bell tower remain of this period. The nave, rebuilt after the Hundred Years' War (early 16th century), has a flamboyant western portal, but its planned vault was never realized, replaced by a walled frame.

In the 18th century (1765), a third construction campaign profoundly altered the building: the flat roman bedside was replaced by a blind pinion wall to install a marble table, while the Romanesque arcades and nave bays were enlarged. A porch, built to the west, partially mutilated the flamboyant gate. In 1862, brick and plaster vaults were added to the stone ribs left on hold since the 16th century, and the lower sides, initially carpented, received the same treatment. The sculpted ass-de-lamps (foliages, characters, capital sins) date from this time or the beginning of the sixteenth century. Finally, in 1884, the porch was demolished.

Classified as a Historical Monument in 1987, the church illustrates the stylistic superpositions of Romanesque, flamboyant and neoclassical gothics. Owned by the commune of Pannes (Loiret), it retains traces of its multiple reconstructions, testifying to its central role in local religious life since the 7th century.
